Surfing and yoga vacations are becoming increasingly popular, particularly in Costa Rica, and you may be asking yourself — why should I choose Bodhi? Below you will find the four points that our past guests have suggested set us apart from the traditional surf and yoga camp, and from other travel experiences in general.
Since its inception in 2010, the Bodhi Surf + Yoga owners have been in love with the idea of using their business for the greater good. Social and environmentally responsible business practices have been woven into the fabric of Bodhi since day one, and with each passing year, we are working to improve.
In 2016, we were honored to receive our B Corporation certification for having met “rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency”. To continue in this calling, we currently engage in community programing, local investments, global fundraising, on-site impact reduction, environmental advocacy, and responsible travel.
A noticeable trend with surf resorts and yoga retreats is that they tend to isolate themselves from their local community. While to some, this may be appealing, the true Bodhi experience is about being immersed into life in Bahia Ballena, Costa Rica, even if it’s just for a week. For that reason, we strive to bridge the gap between our community and our guests.
One way we do that is through our Community Walking Tour, a fun jaunt around Bahia Ballena with trained guides who discuss the local history, culture, economy, and environment. We also do not provide an “all-inclusive” environment for our guests as we want them to go out and explore, allowing all their senses to be engaged by our coastal community.
Surf in a marine protected area
Playa Colonia is the beach where Bodhi holds its surf lessons. Aside from the beach consisting of a number of factors that make it an ideal place for learning to surf, Playa Colonia sits within the Marino Ballena National Park – Costa Rica’s first marine National Park!
So not only will you get to enjoy the temperate and tropical waters of Costa Rica’s South Pacific, you also have the added benefit of being in a place where marine protection is a topmost priority, meaning you will enjoy clean waters and perhaps even see an ocean animal or two!
Small groups, personalized service
Our company believes in the saying “small is beautiful”, and we take great care and pride in providing a personalized and intimate experience at Bodhi Surf + Yoga. Our surf and yoga lodge can host a maximum of 10 people, and we maintain small groups for both our surf lessons and yoga classes to ensure that each participant is receiving the attention and instruction he or she requires.
On top of that, we — the business owners — will be the ones who put your trip together, answer any pre-trip questions you may have, host you at the Bodhi lodge, and serve as your surf and yoga instructors.
