8 Simple Limbs of Yoga for a Simple Life
(June 6-July 1, 2020 Session SOLD OUT)
"The essence of Yoga is to be easeful in body, peaceful in mind and useful in life. The aim of Yoga is to make the body healthy and the mind tranquil and pure. With a pure mind and a healthy body we become a useful instrument for all living creatures."
[based on a quote from Swami Satchidananda]
The philosophy behind the practice of Yoga can be quite dense to understand and it might take a while to absorb the information in such a way that we can see it fitting into the reality of our daily lives.
One of the most essential books that is known to be the foundation of yoga is The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. This is a book of 196 aphorisms where Patanjali explains that there is suffering, the root of why we suffer, and most importantly, what we can do about it.
Right there is where the 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga are born.
The purpose of these limbs is to provide guidelines to live a purposeful and meaningful life. I have heard that both the Yoga Sutras as well as the 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga have the intention to teach us how to avoid suffering. Through my own experience, I would add that these guidelines have the intention of helping us understand our own suffering and take the steps and make the changes necessary to go beyond that.
Why this course is timely
I thought this subject might come in handy in the current times, which are so full of uncertainty and fear. This program is designed to bring peace amidst the chaos, and a more positive view of life. Additionally, to give simple tools that can benefit our own lives and the lives of those around us.
The intention of this program is to learn about the 8 limbs in the simplest way, so that we can easily understand them and see clearly how this information can be applicable in our daily lives. In the way we approach and treat others and all living creatures. Special attention will be placed on how these principles can be applied in the way we interact with Mother Nature.
