This Saturday marks the opening of the first annual culinary festival called “El Sabor De Ojochal” in the town of Ojochal, 15 minutes south of Uvita. Ojochal is the standout community in Costa Ballena when it comes to culinary selection and prowess. This festival is a move to help put Ojochal on the map as a gastro-tourism destination, especially in a country that is frankly much more well known for its spectacular natural environment, selection of adventurous activities to participate in, and sustainable tourism than its gastronomy.
From 11am-9pm, chefs from 14 nearby restaurants will convene at Restaurant Boca Coronado near the mouth of the Terraba River in Ojochal, and there they will each present creative dishes of different styles and traditions. Some of the participating restaurants are:
- Restaurant Ylang Ylang
- Villas Gaia
- Coco Lindo
- Mama y Pappa
So you can expect a variety of flavors from France, the Mediterranean, Indonesia, Costa Rica, and more, and of course plenty of fusion cuisine.
Admission Details and Future Culinary Events
Cost of admission is $20 and includes 3 food/beverage tickets, and additional tickets are $3 each. Presale is available at many of the participating restaurants in Ojochal, and it is best to buy early as organizers say they are expecting up to 500 people. The day is sure to be full of prizes, music, good times, and delicious food. For those unable to attend this occasion, there will also be 3 additional events in 2013: a restaurant week from April 16-26, another one-day event in July, and a second restaurant week in September.
