Costa Rica For A Family Vacation

Bodhi Surf + Yoga / Surf + Yoga Camp Blog / Costa Rica For A Family Vacation

Family vacations are a great opportunity for parents to spend quality time with their kids without the everyday distractions of work, social engagements, school activities, and other daily activities that eat into family time. However, finding the right destination and activities to please each family member is never easy.

A Safe Destination

Traveling with family should be an enjoyable experience, but it can also be a stressful one. Keeping everyone together, organized, and safe is part of traveling but it doesn’t have to take away from the overall experience. There are inherent risks that we all take when we travel but that is part of the experience, it’s inevitable when we leave our home, or comfort zone.

It often seems like the number of places a family can travel to are diminishing due to terrorist threats, tense political and/or social conditions in the host country, and health epidemics, among other things. However, throughout all this chaos, Costa Rica remains a very safe country for family travel. Recognized for being the world’s greenest and happiest country, Costa Rica prides itself on being a popular and safe tourist destination, and offering tourists a great number of activities to indulge in.

What To Do in Costa Rica

As a “green” country that has some 25% of its landmass under some form of protection (more than any other country in the world) and recognized world-wide for its efforts in sustainability, the best thing Costa Rica has to offer its visitors is nature. The possibility of outdoor activities in Costa Rica is pretty much limitless, ranging from ecotours and wildlife observation to adventure activities and extreme sports.

Some of the specific activities that would be suitable for the entire family include:

  • Zip lining
  • Surfing
  • Nature hikes to waterfalls
  • Whale watching boat tours
  • Snorkeling
  • White-water rafting

More Than Just Fun

A vacation is commonly understood to be a time to relax, clear the mind of the everyday activities back home, and enjoy oneself. However, does it mean one cannot learn during a vacation?

I don’t think there’s any arguing that today’s world is driven by technology, and nature seems to have faded into the background. But vacations can be a time to get away from all these technological aspects of our lives and reconnect with nature. In Costa Rica you have the opportunity to stay at an ecolodge and learn about sustainable practices, take a nature tour and learn about the roles of different animal species in their habitats, or simply dedicate some time to an outdoor activity that will get you back enjoying nature.

At Bodhi Surf School one of our driving forces is to help visitors make their own mind-body-earth connection by simply enjoying and being present in the day, learning or trying something new, and building an awareness of how it is all connected.
