It’s December of 2020. On one hand, this year has flown by. On another, it has seemed like the longest year ever. Yet onwards we go, collectively navigating the sweeping changes that this global pandemic has precipitated. At Bodhi Surf + Yoga, we celebrated our 10-year anniversary this year. Granted, it didn’t go quite the way we had envisioned, but we can say without any doubt that this year made us better and stronger. It also put a great deal into perspective: the importance of resiliency, simplicity, and community. Ultimately, it showed us that the path that we are walking is the right one; that we are privileged to be living our values and our passions and sharing them with the world. And we are so excited to be able to do that yet again!
Gratitude is one of our highest values here at Bodhi Surf + Yoga, and we would be remiss without first acknowledging the various communities that have helped to carry us through the year, a year when we were unable to operate normally due to the circumstances presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of the support of our network (individuals, organizations, and movements we are affiliated with), as well as the united front shown by our team, we did not have to let a single staff member go throughout our time being non-operational. Words cannot express how much this has meant to us, and though it goes without saying, we will anyways: THANK YOU ALL, SO VERY MUCH.
We had an interesting time (to say the least) during the height of the pandemic uncertainty. We self-isolated at the Bodhi Lodge for many months with our international staff and a few guests who chose to weather the storm with us in our little (and very sparsely populated) corner of paradise. Like so many others, we threw ourselves into projects that were not only designed to keep us busy and our forward momentum going, but also to continue living our values and sharing our passions with the world. As our guests were unable to get to us, we found ways to get to them. The Bodhi Online concept was born, and we produced a ton of content (which can be found here): online classes, full courses, multiple videos and video series’, cookbooks, film festival lineups, playlists… the list goes on.
We were also able to continue contributing to the various communities that we are a part of. We have been working alongside the private and public sectors via our community foundation, Fundación SOMOS, to both deal with the immediate challenges at hand, as well as continue to make our community more resilient to these types of events. In our global community, we also made several in-kind donations of vacation packages to various causes dear to our hearts.
While travel looks different in the Covid-19 era, we have been so incredibly fortunate to be able to open up our regular season (running our surf and yoga camps) on the originally planned date of November 1st, 2020. We are currently on our fifth week of operations, and it feels so very sweet to be doing what we love once again. Through conversations with our network throughout the pandemic, as well as reflecting on the experience with our first pioneering guests of this new era, we have come up with a unique offer for our guests for the 2021 calendar year.
The Pod Offer!
While travel itself has changed, the desire to travel has not (if anything, it may have gotten stronger!). Travel, when executed thoughtfully and responsibly by both the traveler and the host has more benefits than it does drawbacks. Here at Bodhi Surf + Yoga, we cannot say that visiting us amidst the pandemic is the right thing to do — only you can make that decision for yourself. However, we can say with sincerity that the experience we offer can be executed safely (both for you, the traveler, as well as us, the host community). Additionally, we know that this experience has profound positive effects on all of us that go far beyond the surface.
In order to make the Bodhi Surf + Yoga experience even more safe and accessible in 2021, we have created the “Pod Offer” which is a way that you can come and visit us with your own social bubble and reap the benefits of a surf and yoga camp in a beautiful, sparsely populated, natural paradise. The details? When you book with a group of four or more people in any week in 2021 that has no existing reservations, we will close the entire lodge for your group at no additional cost. It is that simple.
This could very well be the future of travel. In reality, we didn’t have to change much about the vacations that we already offered here at Bodhi Surf + Yoga. We’ve always operated small groups (of 10 people max), now they will just be a little bit smaller. We’ve always been located in a natural paradise where we spend the majority of our time outside, now we’re just trying to keep a little more space between us. We’ve always given our surf lessons inside of a national park, now the park has even fewer people who are entering into it, giving us (at times) a near-private beach. We’ve always had our yoga classes in a beautiful, temperate, open-air space surrounded by lush foliage. The experience is still unique, and still very much Bodhi. It still has the potential to awaken purpose and be a catalyst for positive change — perhaps even more now.
We want you to get outdoors, breathe the fresh air, and feel the sun on your skin. We want you to have a peaceful, invigorating, and experiential learning vacation in Costa Rica. We know that this will not be possible for everyone, but we do hope that this offer will reach everyone that it needs to reach. So please share with anyone you know who may be seeking this type of experience in this strange and remarkable moment in time. And most of all, thank you so much for your support over these last 10 years!
So check out our different camp options and find one that may be right for you and your social bubble to enjoy in 2021!
With tons of love,
The whole team at Bodhi Surf + Yoga
